About

Welcome to this blog documenting my crossing of the Mediterranean, from Mallorca, Spain to Marmaris, Turkey, in a minitransat.

A minitransat is a 6.50m (22ft) sailboat designed to go very very fast. Used to race from France to Brazil, they typically carry lots of sail and have advanced design features. Mine has a canting keel, canards, a planing body shape, and an awesome green color.

I'm a computer scientist in his late thirties. Until I started on this voyage, I spent 99% of my time building software systems.

The Mediterranean is a large body of water between Europe and Africa. I hope to cross it from west to east during the summer of 2011.
